Out of sheer curiosity (and a desire to avoid writing essays) I decided to take a leaf out of Mark Forrers book and take a photo of all my passes from the past…however many years…
Nowadays I’m really good about storing them and stuff but in the old days I didn’t exactly have a great system and a fair few got lost - esp those shitty paper/plastic wristband ones. I also don’t have most of my FOB ones, a lot of them went missing.
There’s some big names in there. I guess the millions of hours work on my little empires did pay off.

Prizes, CtrlAltRock, and bands I know you guys love.

Congratulations to  sabbyvee for winning the free print!

I did not expect to get that sort of response from a contest! I now know it’s a good fun way to keep all this up!  I’ll stick with it from now on and draw one person from every 50 new adds to get a free 9x6 print of their choice, how’s that sound?

Actually what might also work is if everyone heads on over to our music sites tumblr CtrlAltRock anyone that adds us between now and when I get home from my mini tour/travels on Wednesday will be put into a draw to win a TWO of 9x6 prints - winners choice!

We’ve got a great new music site on the go and there is more than just my photos - the rest of the girls to a fantastic job of reviewing the latest tracks and pop along to shows to review AND interview a lot of the bands I post photos of here. This week alone we’ve posted interviews with The Butcher (TAI/Animal Upstairs), Sam and Craig of Twin Atlantic, Bayside, Pierce The Veil, and most recently with Sierra and Blake of Versaemerge. There’s also reviews of the Panic At The Disco show at Bush Hall in London, and A Day to Remember at Brixton!

We’re gonna be doing a few surveys to find out exactly what our readers want, and having some nice little prizes to go along with that soon and it’s likely we’ll be promoting that through tumblr - so helping us out by answering a few Qs could get you some sweet rewards and if you have any questions for bands we’re gonna interview we’ll always try our best to get them answered. xo

How on earth did I fail to share my penguin photos here?
My three favourite types of animal are Pandas, Meerkats and Penguins. We have 2 out of 3 at Edinburgh Zoo and excitingly enough they have just announced that we will be getting two Pandas in the near future. I’m so very excited! Anyway. Penguins. Some were nesting and others were babies who were molting rather terribly (as you can see from the mess of feathers in the background).

This wasn’t quite the year I was hoping for it to be on the gig front. Lots of bands didn’t make it over to the UK even though they planned to, and many shows at the end of the year got canceled because of the abysmal weather. And some gigs clashed with others (ie Underoath was the same night as Ymas and MCR was the same night as Black Cards :( Having to chose sucks!)
A few wristband passes are missing here - but seeing as they were made of paper and just said PHOTO on them they hardly matter. Seriously though why so few picture passes this year? Last year I had loads and this year I just have a billion promoter ones. Lame.
Still, I did get to shoot a lot of bands that I’d been waiting years to shoot - so that was exciting. And I did spend two months in Australia at their quietest time of year for gigs, so I probably missed out on a bunch of stuff that was on here while I was over there.
Hopefully next year is a bit more successful. I’d like to photograph at least 50 shows in 2011 (which shouldn’t be *that* hard considering I shot 46 in 2009)

‘The Songbird of Trafalgar Square’ (visiting Edinburgh’s Fringe Festival). Summer 2007

I have a set of photographs from the street performers at the Fringe in 2007 that I can’t find on any hard drives. It’s becoming incredibly frustrating because this low-res file is the only one I’ve yet located and honestly they were some of my favourite shots ever.

About

Self-taught photographer based in Scotland. Originally just worked on live music but I've branched out into other fields (landscapes and animal portraits mostly - with a random human portrait thrown in from time to time). Now I'm never without at least one camera. Uses: Canon 50D, an assortment of Canon and Sigma Lenses, Canon Ixus 95, old-reliable Canon Powershot S45, Fisheye2 and Polaroid 600. Loves: traveling, canon gear, a good book, music, and cheese.
